I tried to write these tips as simple as possible for web designers of any level to understand.
1.) First of all grammer. Its important to be mature and to have good spelling (i will be the first to admit im not exactly the best speller) Run your pages through a spell check.
2.) Update often, it will keep visitors interested and wanting to come back.
3.) Its always good when you visit a website that has a gorgeous layout. Spend a little bit of time with presentation, its very important. Presentation is what usually draws your visitor in to keep looking, or sends them running for the hills. So layout design is VERY important i cant stress this enough. Avoid confussing layouts, keep your navigation easy to access, and try to have a decent layout image, spend time on it dont rush it!
4.) Sign guestbooks, be nice, exchange links theses are all really good ways to get your site out there, to make friends with other webdesigners and basically advertise. Send me an email and ill gladly exchange links with you =]
5.) Be creative with your content think of original and exciting new fresh things to do. Instead of trying to expand your website make the small amount of content you have of really good quality :) Having the ME, YOU, WWW sections seem to be in these days, so maybe you could organize your sites content like this or think of something different.
6.) Its always a good thing to practice web design and graphic manipulation often to improve your webdesign skills and ofcourse your graphic creations, blends whatever. I mean im still learning myself, there is always something new to learn.. its a never ending story.
7.) Download Paintshop Pro 7, for a free 2 week trial its a very good image editorial programme, its what i use along with the standard paint. You can download it from Jasc.com!
8.) Make your websites colour schemes flowing and not sore on the poor eyes.
9.) Change your sites layouts every so often. Keeps your guests happy and gives your site an exciting new makeover.. i know i always feel good when i change layouts.
